Just wanted to pass along what made my day fantastic today: Had my first
mom begin nursing during her c-section closure. :)

Baby was crying and crying, marginally consoled when I propped her up by
mom's face and mom could talk right to her. We have an ob-gyn intern
rotating with us this week, and my senior resident and anesthesia attending
were out of the room at the time (I think they might have objected
somewhat), so the ob and I decided (along with mom, of course!) that what
the baby needed was to start eating. It did take both the ob and me to help
position and hold the baby -- this ob-gyn intern was awesome, helping to
express colostrum and guide the baby -- and fortunately the OB attending and
other residents operating were very accommodating when we had to move the
table and drapes a little. Woo-hoo! Now that I've been able to help make
it happen, we'll have to try it again and again. :) Mom and baby were very
pleased.
