"What do you know about early injection of Depo ProVera and milk production?
When does your hospital typically give Depo? I am finding that most
literature states waiting 3 days to 6 weeks. Some of our doctors order it
day 2 at discharge. This is of concern to us in the field. Thank you."

I don't see it given before discharge here in Chandler, AZ. Which I am
happy to report. I think messing with any hormone during the time of
lactogenesis is messing with trouble. I wouldn't want to. I took Micronor,
innocently, because my doctor told me it was OK.(19 yrs ago) I trusted her,
but my supply was always sub-quantity, I have wondered and feel after my 10
yrs working in this field that it probably was my source of low milk supply.
I wouldn't take any hormone, or encourage it to any new mom, at least until
milk supply was plentiful and balanced (after 4-6 weeks). I've seen too
many mothers try to get milk supply back after hormone (birth control) use
for even short periods of time. Depo would be irreversible, too, since it's
given by injection to last for 3 months (isn't' it?) Getting milk back is
sometimes a loosing battle.
