WIC mothers don't learn how to maximize ABM allotments to cut drugs!
If exclusive breastfeeders don't collect formula for the 1st two months, their bottle feeding counterparts are 18 cans of ABM ahead: a few hundred dollars worth! Until the exclusive BF package has the same street value of exclusive FF packages, this perceived disadvantage will continue regardless of how much healthier the baby will be. Clients learn to say what they have to to get the most bang for their buck.
What if we rewarded EBF moms with cash... the EQUAL worth the formula would've cost each month... Wouldn't that resonate the street value of breastfeeding? (I once said that to a WIC employee sitting next to me at an ILCA conference in Chicago. She got up and left because the idea was so offensive! Imagine?)
How many carrots and tuna would you need to be issued to equal the value of the ABM given each month?
The crux of the issue is in part monetary imbalance in this dollars and sense world we live in.
