Thank you to those who replied, via Lactnet and privately, to my post about
the baby refusing at 3 and a half months. A couple of you "hit the nail on
the head". It definitely appeared to be a reaction to a previous overactive
let-down reflex. The baby had coped OK, so it seemed, for the first few
weeks, but is now exhibiting the behaviour as described in the LC Series
"The Effects Of An Overactive Let-Down Reflex" article by Andrusiak and
Larose-Kuzenko, as being in "Stage 2" ie refusal at 3 to 6 months. (Thank
you to Diane Wiessinger for directing me to this article.) When I read
excerpts from this to the mum, it certainly rang true to her. BTW, she did
offer the baby a bottle of formula, and he refused that too! So, she will
definitely keep breastfeeding and attempting to make it more pleasurable
for baby.
