Dr. Holick & I are familiar with the existence of many vitamin D
analogues. HOWEVER, as was pointed out yesterday, vitamin D analogues are
used to treat cancer (just like 'natural' vitamin D, the analogues
suppress cancer cells). It is a very active area of investigation and
study. They have no role what so ever, nor were they ever intended to be
used in the treatment or prevention of vitamin D deficiency.

To our knowledge all vitamin D supplements currently in use are chemically
sythesized. We know of no genetically engineered vitamin D compounds
which are being used to treat or prevent vitamin D deficiency.

Danny Hirsch, MD, FAAP, CLC
