Gwen said that she rarely sees a midwife /child and family health nurse /
neonatal intensive care nurse teaching a woman the transition (twin) hold as
the first method of feeding.

I am now wondering if I misunderstood this thread. First of all, I usually
tell moms to rotate positions.......after many years of in-patient lactation
I found that I would see a mom that would have red lines going across the
nipple; I could always tell what hold she had used when I looked at the way
the lines were positioned on the nipple. I would always tell mom to change
positions for two reasons; to get stimulation to all the ducts around the
areola and @ the same time decreasing discomfort and irritation to the same
areas.

The other thing is that I now wonder if what you are calling a
transitional/twin hold is what I would call a football. What do you think?
