When initial problems are solved (low muscle tone, for one) Babies with
Trisomy 21 do quite well with breastmilk.  However, the babies I have
followed resisted weaning with a passion. These babies know what is best
for them... sometimes in spite of Mommy.
Given an enriched environment (including lots of hugs and carrying
around), they are so surprising that I would concur with Mrs Detwiller
and suggest that the parents read only new litterature on Down syndrome.
In my (limited) experience, computers are a very useful tool, especially
with the kids having difficulties in the langage development: it seems
that the computer help kids go around the missing verbal skills
and find other pathways to express themselves. There is a lot of hope for
these kids and their parents.
