I'm posting to ask for help for a mother whose permission I have to post.

She is nursing an 18 month old on one breast a few times a day. For the last
month her nipple has become increasingly sore, and the pain has started
moving back into the breast.

She's had some discharge from the nipple, which she describes as follows:

"There is often something like dead skin or a scab that seems to be coming
right out of the hole in the middle of the nipple, and at one point there was
some black stuff that came out. It might have just been clothing lint, or
maybe dried blood but it was very dark. All this stuff is dry - like dead skin or
a scab - not oozing at all."

Any thoughts would be welcome!
