No,
Iīm not an expert at this - the note just reminded me of
a mom I had last week who had terribly damaged nipples. I
asked her to please let me try to position her baby I could
observe what was going on. During the time I had been
talking to her (about 15 minutes) I had been stroking the
babyīs tongue and was feeling that the tongue was finally
relaxing.

So I promised her Iīd remove the baby immediately if she
found the pain too great, but I would like to see what the
baby did at the breast... So I got him on deeply onto the
breast, mom didnīt cringe or cry out in pain. Baby began
sucking deeply, but I didnīt see any swallows.

Mom asked me - Is he really nursing? I answered: He will
as soon as you start breathing! (She had been holding her
breath in fear of the pain that didnīt come). She started
breathing, milk flowed, swallows were heard...

I think sometimes just taking a deep breath, holding it,
then releasing can give a mom a feeling of quiet which can
lead to relaxation...
