Hi All! A small dilemma, would love any input. One of our relatively pro
breastfeeding peds.(young and new to our center)just had his 2nd baby 2 1/2
weeks ago. When I asked how things were going he said well, but he did have
to admit he was giving the baby his middle of the night feeding with formula
to allow his wife to rest(how thoughtful-a little sarcasm going along with
this comment - what can I say I'm a fanatic). I gently mentioned the idea of
introducing foreign substances and the posibility of increasing allergic
responses, however he did not seem too pleased and replied that would happen
anyway with the introduction of food very soon anyway(I don't see 5 months as
soon, but anyway. . .) I offered to give him a pump and suggested she might
want to try pumping while nursing when she was awake and he could give her
pumped milk in a bottle while she slept-too overwhelming he seemed to think,
but he would ask. What more can I do-free pump and equipment offered, but I
guess it just doesn't compare to that free formula 'ready to feed' no hassle,
no benefit. Any tips to handle a similar situation like this in future would
be appreciated. We briefly discussed the controversial
terminology"exclusively breastfeeding"TIA Anne Williams RN BSN IBCLC
