Hi everyone,
I am surprised no one has mentioned the article in U.S. News & World
Report, Nov. 23. It was titled Miracle Vaccines and addressed the "strides
researchers have made, in the last 2 months alone, toward preventing ills
from such villains as pneumococcus bacteria, which causes meningitis and
ear infections; rotavirus, a key cause of childhood diarrhea and vomiting;
group A streptococcus....." and so on. No where in the article was
breastfeeding mentioned.
I sent a letter pointing out the benefits of human milk and questioning the
advertising practices of pharmaceutical companies. The companies that make
formula have more to gain from breastfeeding failure than just the profits
from formula. They also manufacture the antibiotics needed for otitis media
and respiratory infections, insulin for diabetes, steroids for asthma, and
now vaccines for illnesses that would not be so prevalent if all babies
were fed human milk.
This is not a novel idea, but it certainly doesn't get much press, does it?
