OK, I guess I can call myself one of Karen Gromada's lucky moms! Twice!

Anecdotal:
I found that my non-fecundability and other health benefits of
breastfeeding were enhanced by breastfeeding twins into toddlerhood.
However, I also nursed them longer than my singletons. It seems to me
that of the mothers I have worked with, more of the ones with the
longest periods before resumption of menses have been mothers of
multiples. There have been a couple of mothers of multiples who have
phoned me because they didn't understand why they hadn't started their
periods, since their babies were sleeping through the night. I can't
remember this happening with mothers of multiples.

We should remember a couple of things, though. Multiples will
spontaneously occur more often with mothers who release two ova on a
regular basis, and these mothers have also been seen to reach menopause
earlier. These things might involve lingering hormonal differences as
well.

I would love to see studies done on the biological differences in
mothers breastfeeding multiples.
