Some people are carriers via throat and it can be difficult to eradicate,
but possible. Nasal carrier can be eradicated by using Bactroban nasal
cream.

CHOP Children's Hospital of Philadelphia) has a whole routine involving use
of hexachloraphene bathing and clorox beach added to bath water to elimate
MRSA from skin after treatment with correct antibiotics.

I do not believe carrier state is lifelong, however it can be reactivated
after another another strep throat, probably ditto for a skin infection.
Either type (MRSA or strep) can get passed around families :-( That is why
CHOP recommends nasal treatment and bathing regime.

The trick is using the right antibiotics for the right length of time :-)
