Hi all,

I need some help with a mother I am working with. She is now 9 days
postpartum and is only producing about a teaspoon of milk. We have her using
a sns and feeding abm. Baby nurses well and has been all along
Her prolactin level is 23ng/ml(randum draw, not done just after pumping) and
thyroid level is normal. She did not have any excessive bleeding after
delivery and said her flow stopped completly 2 days pp. We think she may
have retained placenta. Her doctor thinks she would be bleeding a lot and
does not want to do a d&c needlessly. I suggested we do a progesterone
level. Am I right to think that would be elevated if she did have some
placental fragments. Something is blocking her prolactin! We started her on
reglan 10mg tid but I'm afraid this may not help. Any Ideas?

Thanks so much,

Jane in NH Where we are expecting about 8 inches of snow! Happy Easter!
