Hi again,
Thank you for all the wonderful responses!
Here is an update (mom had severe itchy nipples only throughout pregnancy,
OB recommended OTC Hydrocortisone ung with no relief, presented after
delivery with open areas around base of each nipple BEFORE baby L/O first
time, no history of yeast or ABX): I had mom try Lotrimin on one nipple,
and Polysporin on the other (was unable to find a local compounding
pharmacy with all the "ingredients" to make APNO) The next morning the
Lotrimin nipple was improving, the Polysporin nipple no improvement. She
was DC'd pumping and BoF temporarily until nipples healed. Also saline
soaks, had her use both ointments on both her nipples D/T the open areas,
and Soothies (per mom's wish). Four days after DC, nipples almost totally
healed, no itching and not painful anymore. Mom was to call for consult
for help with first L/O when totally healed.
Thanks again for all the brainstorming!
