Dear Wise and Knowledgeable Ones-
I got a call from a mom this afternoon who is desperate for help. I told
her I would post to the list to get others' in-put as well.
    Here's her situation-

Her baby is now almost 5 months old
She gained weight well initially---born at 8 lb, 15 oz, was 9-6 at 2 weeks
  at 2 months, dropped from 90%ile to 50th %ile, 10 lb.s, 1 ounce
within weeks of 2 month check up began with blood in stool--thought was anal
fissures, unconcerned at first.
THen the baby developed what was thought to be a cold, but she became
very ill, and almost died. No one knows quite what that was. She was
hospitalized at a very good children's hospital (St. Christopher's in Phila)
was NPO for a week, and had severe diarrhea.

After 1 week, began BF a little, gradually increasing amounts, then
discharged fully breastfeeding. Was 3 1/2 mos and back to 2 month wt of
10-1.
Over next few weeks, gradual wt. gain to max of 10-7, then gradually
dropped weight. Blood in stool returned. Mom told to eliminate dairy (June
26), then also eliminated soy and beef July 1. Mom reads labels and is
meticulous about avoiding dairy componants. Blood in stool continued and she
was told to give her baby Nutramagin. Allowed to breastfeed small amaounts
(gives 6 ounces of formula, then "allowed" to breastfeed after). Blood in
stools remains. She has another appointment with the gastroenterologist and
will be told to stop BF entirely if blood in stool remains.
Mom described herself as "really big milk drinker" throughout entire
pregnancy----4 or 5 glasses each day plus cheese, yogurt, etc.
Incidentally (?), blood in stool first apparent 3 days after her 2 month
immunizations (DPT), and reoccurrence of grossly bloody stools came 1 day
after DPT at 4 mos. Her physician found that "interesting" and worthy of
note, but does not think that the two are related.

Any ideas? Please let me know! THANKS!
