In discussing the sore nipples case, Barb writes:
"That is when
I noticed the baby's tongue tie - frenulum to the tip, unable to sustain

tongue over bottom gum line. Previously, a digital suck assessment
revealed
good sucking technique and an extended tongue. But, apparently he could
not
maintain it throughout the feeding".

I find this very scenario very frustrating. So often even a doc who is
open to clipping will put a finger in baby's mouth for a couple seconds
and pronounce clipping to be unnecessary since baby "can get the tongue
over the gum line". I find a fair percentage can do this, but
MAINTAINING the tongue there is the challenge. I liken it to having a
rubber band attached to the tip. Baby can stretch the rubber band for
a few seconds, but doesn't have the stamina to maintain the position
throughout a feeding.
