Hi Lyla,
Frequently when a baby seems to be miserable after feeding, needs a lot
of burping,a nd is gaining too much weight, I suspect that either mom
has a huge milk supply or baby cannot handle the flow, or both.

Normal labial frenula allow the lips to be neutrally flanged, not turned
all the way outward (that is a sign that baby is sucking with the lips
and/or latched shallowly.)  If the upper labial frenulum is tight, it
will generally be inserted into the apex of the gum ridge, causing a gap
in the central incisors when they come in.

Naive palate is my *hypothesis* for the cause of hyperactive gag in
babies with bubble palate.  Don't bank on it, but do look and see if you
agree with me.

An OT or speech/feeding therapist might be helpful, as well as an ENT or
oral surgeon to screen the baby's lingual frenulum.
