Now, about Brethine and sleepy babies:  I have no clinical references, but
from my personal experience being on Terbutaline (Brethine) for three months
before my second son was born, I can say he had NO episodes of excessive
sleepiness--this despite developing sepsis and being in ICU for two weeks!  I
DID notice his suck was dysfunctional even on the delivery table.  Only med
during delivery: one dose of Stadol.  (That's another whole letter!) I
wonder, though, if the mother of the sleepy baby also may have been given
magnesium sulfate before delivery.  It is often used for preterm labor that
does not respond to the Brethine, as well as for pregnancy-induced
hypertension.  I find many babies are sleepy, or even a little "floppy" for
days and weeks after birth, even with only a minimal dose of magnesium.  Just
an idea to look into....
