This is an internal puff piece of sorts. I am happy to be able to report
that the JHL article voted most useful in 2004 was our very own Jean
Cotterman's article about reverse pressure softening. I'm sure I have many
of you with me in congratulating her for this latest recognition of her work
describing what has become an invaluable technique for many of us when
working with mothers post partum during the establishment of breastfeeding.
This is also the most formal accolade so far, and comes on top of many
individual testimonials to the technique's effectiveness, from clinicians
who can barely remember what BF support was like "B.C." (Before Cotterman!)

It's no secret that I am a huge fan of the technique, as well as of its
mother, who is an inspiration to me for her driving curiosity and
determination to get to the bottom of things, and her willingness to share
generously with anyone who cares to make use of her knowledge in helping
mothers to breastfeed their babies. I am proud that Jean is an active
contributor on Lactnet, and that many thoughtful Jean Cotterman posts
pertaining to the nipple-areoalar complex through the years this list has
existed, are available through our archives. They constitute a unique
collection of reflections on anatomy and function, and are well worth a
review for those of you who may not have been subscribers more than the last
year or so.

So, on behalf of the listmothers, congratulations, Jean! You are a very
worthy recipient of such recognition from your colleagues.
