We are also a Lamaze approved site and have never had any restrictions put
on us as to what we can and cannot teach. We even have doctors who are
happy to go along with what their patients want (for the most part). Our of
all of our 9 OB's and 5 CNM's we only have ONE doc who more routinely than
not will cut an epis (but if you keep her out of the room till the bitter
end she doesn't do it because she doesn't have time).

However, things do not always go as they should and there will always be
times that the rules change, so to speak. People will get pushed into
inductions, etc., no matter what they were thinking. I am not going over
that again.

However, regarding inductions, there are times when the doctor is pushed
into scheduling an induction because the patient wants it. You guys who
don't work in hospitals need to understand that we educators do NOT have
control over everything.

My point is that not all people want the natural, Lamaze based pregnancy
and childbirth that we all espouse. Do those of us who work with
childbearing women know that the more matural the better? Of course we do
and our docs do as well, but that doesn't always happen. Despite what we
teach, people are often going to go the route they choose. Maybe theri
plan changes. It is not always the fault of the medical community. It is
often consumer driven as well. That not only goes for childbirth, but
breastfeedinf plans as well.

Again, I am going to say that all we can do is educate and step back.
