HI all

The mother I recently described with the breast abscess contacted me today. She
has just been reviewed by her surgeon 2 weeks postop and he has suggested she
wean completely as she is leaking milk from the 2cm wound in her breast. She
had planned to wean just from that breast, and hasn't fed from it for weeks, but
is still feeding her 12 week old from the other side. She is reluctant to wean
but is having trouble coping with the milk leakage (changes padding every hour).
I know there are some studies that show that the breast will heal even if
lactation continues, but I would like some suggestions as to how to help this
breast 'dry-up' and fix the leaking quickly, as mum has little reserve left
to cope with this. I have suggested firm bra, cabbage leaves, but wonder if
anyone has any other suggestions. She is not expressing from that side but
says the breast feels lumpy in places.
TIA for any information
