Hi, Catherine.
       You wrote:  "The other [position] is sidelying with him lower than 
mom's breast, so he has to tip his head back a lot to latch."
       Others have also written at other times about tipping head way back 
for babies with recessed chin.  Every time I read this idea, I wonder about the 
risk of aspiration when the head is hyperextended like this.  Would you share 
your thoughts on this?
