Dear Kathleen: It seems to me if this baby is "protein intolerant", it's
to the supplement, not the breast milk.  It's very odd that the
pediatrician is stopping the breastfeeding.  Why not try exclusive
nursing instead?  Nutramigen's track record is not any better than
exclusive breastfeeding, especially when mom restricts possible allergens
in her diet (it's not clear from the info you've given that that's even
necessary in this case).  The other possibilities you've mentioned are
certainly reasonable, and should be investigated, but none requires
weaning.  Is this mother pumping to increase her supply again?  It sounds
like this pediatrician is not very supportive of breastfeeding, but there
