This made me think of a LLL meeting I lead a couple of years ago.  One of our
regulars brought her pregnant sister to try to convince her to breastfeed.
 The mother to be was absolutely against doing such a dirty, disgusting
thing.  I have never seen someone so violently opposed to breast feeding.  I
was amazed that she had come at all.  It was a delicate discussion for the
the whole group as you can imagine.  The room full of moms with babies in
arms were told by this soon to be mom that is was most distatseful to watch
them nurse.  I made a few  delicate inquiries as to what started these
feelings.  The woman said that she worked at a Dr's office in town.
 Everytime a woman came in nursing a baby the staff would ridicule the mother
behind her back.  So the woman at our meeting didn't want to be percieved as
gross by the medical profession.  We were amazed at this.  At the end of the
meeting she quickly left never to return again. ....Six months later I ran
into the Bresast Feeding sister at the store.  She was eager to tell me
something.  'You remember how my sister embarrased me at the metting?  Well
,she had her baby 5 months ago.  Two days after birth she was so engorged
with milk she didn't know what to do.  She called me and said that this was
not right, her body needed to breastfeed.  So she did.'  She apparently
continued a little more than three months.  What a change.             Kim
