Dear debbie-I think my reply is lost in cyberspace or its still in my
computer somewhere beyond my reach. I'll try again. I brought you post up
as lunch table discussion yesterday. Allison Hazelbaker (of tongue tie
fame) and Barbara Clay Wilson (wise woman) both said they thought cup
feeding caused apnea in baby. Allison said if you watch UNICEF video
carefully 5 of 6 babies have apnea during the feeding. (If you know what to
look for - I've never worked NICU or had OT training, so I'm not sure if I
would pick up on this). I wish Paula Meier would hook some babies up to all
her monitors and cup feed to see what happens.

I knew there was some reason I prefered fingerfeeding with a tube. It is
more in baby's control (unless you use a big tube and hang supply high).
I'm leary of peridontal syringe because I question who is controling the
feed..feed-er or feed-ee.

The catch 22 with cup feeding is sending briefly trained, tired parents home
to do it!

Of course babies have been fed since the beginning of time with a cup. We
know they frequently didn't survive, but that may have had more to do with
cup contents and sanitation, than apnea......interesting discussion!
Thanks, Pat
