Hi- an intro. I work for a home health agency in Vt following low income
at-risk moms prenatally, and up to a year post-partum.. In addition I do
early discharge home visits, and assorted pediatric medical cases (cardiacs,
premies, low wt gain), working with private insurances .
But my question is this- what do you tell moms about smoking and
breastfeeding? I know that overall, breastfeeding out weighs the hazards of
ABM-but how much is too much? one pack per day-two packs per day? And, hard
to believe , but what about the mom who's been smoking three packs/day
thru-out her pregnancy?
Currently am seeing a mom who is open to breastfeeding, but her boyfriend
will not let her unless he sees something definitive (i.e. coming from a
dr.)stating that breastfeeding and smoking is ok.
What printed materials are there out there-in plain and simple language? No
soapboxes please. Thanks, Ellen
