Hi Julie and all other lactnetters ,
As a rule , according to jewish law ,anyone a laboring women needs to
support her in childbirth - emotionally or physically is permited to ride to hospital
with her on shabbat or holidays when driving is usually prohibited.
In shulchan aruch (the code of jewish law ) It says you are permited to light a candle on the shabbat for a blind woman in labor if that makes her feel more secure. It seems our sages knew just how important state of mind is to keep the oxytocin flowing.
I still suggest you look for a rabbi to give you more specific and direct advice,
as there are specific rules regarding the way you travel, and how to go about that.
