Hi Katie and all,
This question pops up each and every year. There are a number of "fast" days in the Jewish Calendar. Yom Kippur and Tisha Be'Av are the main ones and the others are "lesser" in their so called importance. Not that they aren't important but - only on Yom Kippur and Tisha Be'Av are bfg moms required to fast. There usually is no problem in the bfg mom even though this would probably be an individual matter. Some of us fast well, and some of us are out to lunch when fasting - headaches, dizziness, even vomiting. It really isn't an issue, but according to the Jewish law, unless having given birth within one week of Yom Kippur or any fast day, one is expected to fast. If there are medical issues, then one is expected to consult with their rabbi.
Our fasts include NOT drinking as well as not eating.
FYI.
