I've posted to the list a few times in the last couple of weeks after just
lurking for a long time. The last time I posted, my name and city, probably
were different, so I guess a reintroduction is in order, briefly. My last
name was Puckett for 24 years, so some people may know me by that. I have
been doing lactation as well as labor and delivery in 3 towns, in 2 states
so I've gotten a personal view of the state of breastfeeding support in
different places. I hope-and plan-to stay put for a long time. In fact, I
hope only to be moved out of my current residence in a pine box at a
comfortably old age, after many grandchildren and great grandchildren (whom
I will enjoy immensely!). Someday.

Anyway, I have had some experience with this low thyroid condition myself
and here is a good website.

This condition is called Wilson's Syndrome, and is an occult hypothyroid
state. The tests normally used to test for thyroid levels won't necessarily
indicate a problem, as the info on this site will explain. I have had
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for 7 years and saw my FP several times last spring
for new and different symptoms. I found this info on Wilson's Syndrome
through a CFS email newsletter I get and discovered I had many of the
symptoms they list, including the low body temp. I had to get a referral to
an endocrinologist who agreed to a trial of the medication without further
testing (my TSH was low normal). My own FP was not comfortable doing a
trial of the medication and didn't want to do further thyroid testing. Long
story short, it's sure helping me (and I'm not freezing all the time, which
is great this winter!!!). I hadn't thought about babies or children
having it but I know from my research how much it can affect your life and
not be easily diagnosed.
Warmly (finally!),
Marsha Glass RN, BSN, IBCLC, thawing out in Indianapolis.
