Dear Friends:

The door is not closed to breastfeeding when the mother chooses to feed
formula in the hospital.

At least half of such mothers that I saw would have some myth or
misconception about breastfeeding that when corrected, resulted in change.
This was very exciting.

As for the mothers that were still uninterested, then I could make sure they
knew what to do with swelling breasts and that they could still change their
minds. I would ask them how they knew to make their decision, so I would
learn something.

I have no clue how to talk to a mother about making and feeding bottles,
other than giving the baby control of the feed using a paced technique.

Maybe hospital LCs want to be careful that we aren't snared into teaching
about formula??

warmly,
