Noelle, Could this mom have been a victim of sexual abuse. I often find
this to be the case when a mother is extremely embarrassed or extremely
disgusted with the thought of breast feeding. A while back, Janet Simpson
(I think) shared excellent information about sexually abused mothers and
breastfeeding. Janet?

Marie, have been thinking about your experience. Agree with other
lactnetters that something else is going on with this mom. By now, she may
be discharged, but it seems that she would benefit from a social service
consult or at least a home health visit to evaluate her coping skills. Am
also wondering if she has any psych history. Could be she was plain
over-reactive, but I'm just wondering.
