I don't have any experience with using hydrogel for sore nipples. However, I have good success with Dr. Newman's triple ointment (Betamethasone 0.1% ointment, Nystatin ointment, and Mupirocin)
and shells. This covers yeast and staph. This works wells for moms with yeast and cracks or fissures to heal enough to then use the gentian violet 1% treatment. My position is easier than some because I am also a nurse practitioner with prescribing authority so no consulting with MD.

Also, to Barbara Wilson-Clay - what a beautiful story from your mom! It does help make all our efforts worthwhile.
