Okay, in the interest of attempting not to violate confidentiality on
this very unique case, the patient stayed in the hospital for about 6
weeks antepartum with pre-eclampsia, delivered vaginally at term with
lacerations and complications, got real sick, stayed in the hospital for
another two weeks, and went home this week. Baby was small but healthy.
Mom was too sick to breastfeed. The theoretical discussions that went on
between myself, the lactation consultant, and the obstetrician concluded
with the thought that she should have been able to breastfeed since she
has a functioning pituitary gland and could make oxytocin and prolactin.

I am currently talking with the OB about collaborating on a case study
article. Hope you guys will get to see it in the next year or so. I'll
keep you updated.
