**In Vienna, though, Richard Bowlby told how his father John, founder of 
attachment theory, attached to his nanny in the way described and saw *her* 
as the primary attachment figure. John was heartbroken when the nanny left , 
so it can be okay to put a nanny in that role, but only if you can be pretty 
sure the nanny will stay with the family for a long, long time.
Richard said there was an interesting question to ask in this respect: ask 
an adult by whom he was raised, and quite likely you will get the name of 
the primary attachment figure. Very interesting.
