Hi all, I'm reading the articles

(1) Journal of Human Lactation 11(1), 1995 pp 21-26 "Infant Demand and Milk
Supply, Part 1: Infant Demand and Milk Production in Lactating Women,"
Daly, Steven and Peter E. Hartmann.

(2) Journal of Human Lactation 11(1), 1995 pp 27-37 "Infant Demand and Milk
Supply, Part 2: The Short-Term Control of Milk Synthesis in Lactating
Women." Daly, Steven and Peter E. Hartmann.

and am writing a few articles about it in the magazine of the Dutch bf
organization "Borstvoeding Natuurlijk".

I'm wondering about one thing. Daly e.o. seem to suggest that storage
capacity is a given, probably genetically predisposed. However, I wonder
how the storage capacity is influenced by the breastfeeding managment in
the early days after delivery. Assuming that milk ducts grow in the
pregnancy and in those early days, and that severe engorgement can cut down
the number of ducts that will be involved in future milkproduction (during
the current lactation periocd), one could conclude that storage capacity of
the breast can be variable in between several lactation periods, in one
women.

What do you think about this?
