I have permission from this mother to post this as she would welcome
suggestions as to how she can keep on breastfeeding.

Her first baby is one month old. IVF baby. Mum had lots of drugs (opiates)
post-op in early pregnancy when she lost a twin and a fallopian tube.

At 4 months pregnancy, she started bleeding from her right nipple. She saw
a breast consultant and had ultrasounds. Good news is that it is not
*sinister*. She has lots of *congested* normal tissue.

When her milk came in, she had lots of milk in this breast. The problem is
that this breast is excruciatingly painful. The *congested* tissue (which
is most of the breast) throbs painfully all the time. It is too painful to
feed or express. Heat doesn't help so she is going to try cold. She has fed
only a few times in the last few days due to the pain. Because her milk
supply is now dwindling, the breast is slightly less painful.

She is willing to explore all avenues. As she can breastfeed happily from
the other breast, we have talked about letting the milk dry up from the
painful breast and feeding from one side only.
Any others ideas would be gratefully received.

Thanks
