There seems to be a little confusion in terminology here. I think we 
should use the same language as speech and occupational therapists to 
describe oral motor issues, to promote understanding.

Tongue thrust is a forceful outward movement of the tongue. This does 
push mom's nipple out of the mouth, and can make mom sore, and needs 
referral to a therapist, because it is associated with low muscle tone 
and neurological issues.

The sliding in and out tongue movement is different from tongue thrust, 
  Dr. Coryllos and I see this movement on ultrasound studies of tongue 
tied babies breastfeeding. Kathy Eng is right that it's not efficient, 
and can make moms sore.

I'm interested to try some of Kathy's strategies for dealing with these 
2 movements...thanks for sharing them!
