It is heartening to read that this nurse-in was well-received. And I'm glad Jessie's passion led to
legislative changes in Massachusetts. In 2001, I lobbied more than a dozen Maryland State
Delegates to pass breastfeeding-in-public legislation, and did all I could to support and facilitate
a grassroots effort to change the law. You can see my pleas to LN in the archives! The bill passed
unanimously in one house but didn't make it out of committee in the other; there were a few
people on that committee convinced that there didn't need to be a law, or that the law would open
the floodgates to indecent exposure, and no amount of lobbying (including a nurse-in that was
staged in Annapolis after, as it happened, it was too late in that legislative session to reconsider
the bill) would change their minds.

VS's good reaction does indicate that they are, as a company, both publicity savvy and in general
sympathy with this cause. I'm glad they responded the way they did.

I would hope that topics like these can be discussed without hurtful characterizations of people
who express a minority opinion. One reason I devote the online time I have to LN is that posts
tend to be passionate, empirically-based, logical and well-written. I like to see all sides of issues,
learn from others, change my opinions and be called to action.

Kerry Ose, not a lactation professional, nor on a high horse, but just an LN subscriber expressing
an opinion and learning from events as they unfold...
