Hello everyone - I've been lurking for quite a while now, and I'd like to
express my appreciation for all the things I've learned here. Fascinating
discussions and great information! My son is waiting for me to finish a
game of Chinese Checkers, so I'll try to make this quick.

Today I was contacted by a mother who has a 2-month-old son, and a very
itchy, uncomfortable rash all over her chest and abdomen. Her doctor has
diagnosed it as pruritic urticarial papules & plagues of pregnancy (PUPPS),
and has prescribed predisone and a topical steriod. The mother says the
cream helps, but only a bit, and the predisone was only started today, so
she doesn't know about that yet. I have searched the archives and will
make some suggestions to her based on what I found there, but I still have
questions. Her doctor says the rash is caused by hormones, and may
continue as long as she is breastfeeding. There are references in the
archives to PUPPS not being caused by hormones (which makes sense to me) -
is there anything to back that up? I'd like to be able to tell her that
weaning may not be the answer - she strongly desires to continue
breastfeeding. If the predisone (prescribed for 7 days, I'll check the
dose) doesn't work, does she have other options? I suggested a naturopath,
but she sounds quite resistant to that, because of the "lack of
information" (her words) on this type of treatment. Is there anything
specific in this area that may be helpful to her?

Thanks so much - I'll be reading the digests with extra interest now!

Ingrid
