Since I'm catching up on reading posts, I assume by now you will have
gotten suggestions on how to be sure baby is actually transferring
milk. I wanted to add a suggestion for determining wetness of
disposable diapers. Some new moms may be so overwhelmed they don't ned
to make more laundry by using a cloth to determine wetness. I usually
suggest taking a sheet of paper towel (the softer kind she has at home,
NOT the institutional kind at a hospital or clinic). Tear the sheet
into strips about 2 inches wide-the sheets usaully tear very easily in
one direction. When she first puts a new diaper on baby, she lays a
strip of paper towel in the diaper front to back. Then when she goes to
change it, it is very easy to tell if the towel strip is wet and it gets
tossed with the diaper, so it's really no extra work for an already
stressed mom.
At one time I thought there was a disposable diaper with a built-in
reagent strip that would change color when urine contacts it. Or is
that only in the disposable training pants? Sure would make things
easier!
Winnie
