Leslie, I also believe that uninterrupted skin-to-skin for at least the 
first two hours is vital - especially with the type of births that we are 
seeing these days.  Some babies will self attach and some just need a little 
support in the right direction.  It's definitely not the time for 
"instructions/advice".

Today we had a first for us - a mother about 2 hours post caesarean was 
wheeled (in her bed) into the High Care Nursery and her stable 33-weeker 
placed skin-to-skin.  Hers was the only baby there, so the midwife could 
move incubators around and make space for mom's bed.  This mother was so 
happy - she needed minimal analgesia!  She was still there when I went off 
duty!
