When I was living in Japan, I saw a television show documenting the life
of a woman Quadriplegic. I came in during the birth. At first, I was
horrified to watch what was going on---the medical staff was pushing on
the woman's abdomen to help her birth the baby vaginally. I was of
course expecting to see a birth with little intervention. It was not
until they followed this woman's homelife that I realized she was a
Quadriplegic. My take on this was that they felt a vaginal birth was
possible and best for mom and baby. I doubt this would occur in North
America.
