~~One of the things I used to
teach in class (in the US) was for women to bring their own clothing to
wear, to make them feel less like a 'patient' and more like a person. I
really feel that once we get women out of their own clothing/nighty whatever
and into an institutional gown we start to disempower them just a little
more.~~
when i had my 2nd, my 1st was still nursing. so i needed breasts that he
could access while i was laboring (pitocin can't even compare to what a nursing
toddler does to help labor along!). i just wore a big loose t-shirt and tied the
hosp gown around my waist. well, okay my middle since the waist didn't really
come back for a few wks! it kept it easy for every hospital person and their
uncle to check my progress and i could still be discreet (ha!) in my own
t-shirt while nursing. plus as an extra, i got to take the t-shirt home and keep
it as a souvenir for what i was wearing when my baby was 1st laid on me.
