I saw a 6 wk baby make a similar stool. Mom had been supplementing
w/Similac but chngd to M-J because of WIC. She had started w/RTF Sim in
hospital, but switched to powder M-J thru WIC, then bought powder Sim
because she thought the M-J caused digestive problems. I don't know which
version she had last fed baby. She had been undermixing the powder to ease
baby's digestive pain. I warned her to mix exactly as directed & don't mix
up the scoops between the brands.

During my visit to assist w/latch so she wouldn't need ABM any more, baby
produced a huge green sludge-like stool. Diaper was off for changing when
this major addition came out. It was thick enough that it was difficult for
baby to push out & held its coiled form in the open diaper. But it as the
diaper was folded up, it easily molded to the folding diaper - like very
thick pudding. There was a small yellow streak here & there in those ugly
coils of stool. My description is "green sludge".

Baby was otherwise healthy-looking: growing & gaining, but according to
mom, having digestive problems all the time.

I had been called incidental to mom's 6 week Women's Clinic checkup. She
had baby with her and told the RN of her BFing problems. Mom's nipples were
everted, intact, & still dripping w/milk, but baby screamed in protest when
put near the breast. The only time she had breastfed was in the hospital.
Mom had been trying to force baby to breast at home, for almost an hour at
a time, by mom's statement. Baby accepted the breast with nipple shield in
place, happily glugging down milk until she slipped into bliss. Gave mom
instrs on how to apply, use, & get rid of the shield.
