Hello Rita and others,

I use homeopathy quite a lot at home. I use calendula ointment for all kinds
of skin problems, but I have never thought of it for thrush. It is real
healing and I know some moms use it for sore nipples, but would itwork for
yeast? I would think some internal remedy would be appropriate. I have a
little booklet by two local midwives who use a lot of homeopathy in their
practise which lists calc carb and borax for thrush. Also there are remedies
for engorgement, breast infections, over abundant supply, increasing supply
etc. I am real interested in this. I have suggested some of these to moms who
seem to be interested or have some prior experience with homeopathy, but I
haven't got much feedback.

Homeopathists use a very wholistic approach to choosing a remedy and it is
not based on just one symptom. Emotional and personality states are key to
choosing a remedy. Homeopathic remedies are very benign. They are processed
by taking the active substance and diluting it repeatedly. It is a very safe
treatment. I feel pretty much a novice at diagnosing, but I'm very interested
in this. I've experienced homeopathy being very effective and it makes sense
to me that it could help with breastfeeding problems.

Other wierd treatments I have seen work are cranial adjustments on infants
with sucking problems. One of these same midwives is trained in this
technique and uses it on her babies. They definitely recommend arnica and
hypericum for babies who have had birth trauma.

I am fascinated by all this. Marilee Wooworth IBCLC
