In the '50's, "Mammol Cream" was standard issue to each new BF mother admitted to postpartum. Problem is, it seems to have contained a numbing agent (for moms) and if not washed off with whatever moist wipe we handed moms, it may have numbed the babies' tongues too, LOL! (Not really. It wasn't laughable what we did to moms back then, speaking as both a former postpartum nurse and a new mom x 4 in the 1950's. Thank heavens LLL came along in time for me to benefit in 1959!
