Lactnetters,

I followed another link in Linda's post, again out of curiosity.

www.cdc.gov/breastfeeding. One of the early links at that site to guide
readers to Lactation Consultants, is straight to the ILCA site. I tested
out some of the major cities in Ohio. There are only 6 listed in Dayton,
only 6 listed in Cincinnati and only 1 listed in Cleveland. I got answers
of 0 when I searched Toledo, Steubenville, Canton, Akron, and Columbus,
our capital city!

I didn't search any other states, but if this is indicative of the ease
of finding an IBCLC, I would suggest we close ranks and encourage at
least the members of ILCA to use the opportunity to sign up with ILCA in
the "finding a lactation consultant" section. I am not certain at this
time whether having the credential enables one to sign up, or if one must
actually also be a member of ILCA. I plan to bring this up to the local
coalition, state group and the ILCA staff itself.

With this massive campaign getting off the ground, and the websites
getting so much traffic, and our desire to elevate the respect of the
public for our relatively new profession, I think this is a pretty
important point to consider.

BTW, it is a much easier task to connect via the links with a LLL leader
in one's area. That, of course, is a saving grace.
