Skip this if you are not interested in how much grocery items have gone up,
but you may find one item in particular interesting. I retrieved an old
Hoosier cabinet from my grandmother's pantry last weekend, and one of the
drawers was lined with a newspaper from July 1971. Winn Dixie ( a local
grocery store) had an ad, so I went around to Winn Dixie this week to
compare the cost of the items in the advertisement.

Astor Coffee 10 oz. 89 cents- now Astor Coffee 12 0z. $5.22

Lean ground beef-10 pounds/$4.99- now lean ground beef $1.78 a pound
($17.80)

Superbrand Ice Milk-3 half gallons/$1.00- now 3 half gallons/$5.00

Thrifty Maid Fruit Drink-4(46 oz) cans/$1.00- now 97cents each ($3.88)

Thrifty Maid Pineapple (20 oz) 5/$1.00- now 89 cents each ($4.45)

Thrifty Maid Pineapple Juice 3 (46 oz cans)/$1.00- now $1.27 each ($3.81)

Libby Vienna Sausage 4(4 oz cans)$1.00- now 4 (50z cans) $1.98

Similac with or without iron 4(13 oz cans) $1.00- now 4(13 oz cans) $11.16

Interesting, huh? Anyone want to do the math?
