Diane,
I fully agree that we cannot balance this equation.  CDC wants us to "counsel
the HIV+ mother not to breastfeed".  This means discourage, not prevent.  In
the end, the decision is hers.
        There are a very few people who have been HIV+ for many years without
significant illness.  Wonder if they were breastfed?
